人気SFシリーズ「スター・ウォーズ」の完結編となる「スター・ウォーズ エピソード3 シスの復讐」（ジョージ・ルーカス監督）が19日、全米で封切られた。各地の映画館では平日にもかかわらずファンが超だの列を成した。公開第1週の売上記録である「スパイダーマン」(2002年)の1億1500万ドルを抜くかどうか、注目が集まっている。
スター・ウォーズは今作品が6作目。米メディアによると、今作品の映画館前売り券の売上が、過去最高だった「マトリックス・リローデッド」(2003年)と「ロード・オブ・ザ・リング」(同)を上回ったという。
スター・ウォーズのシリーズは、1977年の第1作以来、これまでの5作品の興行収入が全世界で38億ドル（約4000億円）に達した。
